Why?........ Because:
Serving the Children of the World Begins at Home
Kiwanis clubs have been serving the Columbus community since the Evening Club was formed in 1920 and now includes more than 150 service-minded men and women in four clubs: Evening, Meridian, East, and Golden K. We have always focused on helping children of all ages from Prenatal Care, to Shots for Tots, to K-BUG, to Key Clubs, to College Scholarships.

We have been able to use our personal and community resources to reach out and help Ronald McDonald House, Riley Hospital and Camp Riley on a state level, and we have supported the Kiwanis Worldwide Service Project to eliminate Iodine Deficiency Disorders (IDD) with our partners at UNICEF and actor Roger Moore as our IDD Honorary Chairperson.

We have provided manpower to help other organizations in our community such as March of Dimes, Child Abuse Prevention Council, Head Start, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Advocates for Children, Housing Partnership, Special Olympics, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Salvation Army, Just Friends, Meals on Wheels, the Alzheimer’s Association and many more.
We have raised money doing everything from selling coal and trash bags to flipping pancakes, barbequing chicken, roasting corn, doing retail inventories, selling roses, hosting golf tournaments, working at air shows, and collecting pop tabs.

Regardless of our efforts, there have still been times when children, and organizations that serve children, have come to our clubs for our help, and we have had to say … “sorry, there just isn’t enough money in our budget this year to help your cause.” Saying NO to people in need; especially those in our own back yard, is not something that Kiwanis members enjoy doing.
Our plan is to organize and run an annual Duck Splash in Round Lake at Mill Race Park during our community’s Ethnic Expo Festival. We currently have thousands of rubber ducks which can be “adopted” by anyone wanting to help children in Columbus, and in the process, have the chance to win fabulous prizes. Any business or individual who would like to learn more about how to contribute potential cash or prizes for the winners of our Kiwanis Incredible Duck Splash and how they can be recognized as one of our SPONSORS can click here.
Anyone wanting the chance to win a new car, or one of 25 other fabulous prizes totaling up to $10,000, as well as having the opportunity to support his/her favorite non-profit youth organization, can learn more about Duck Adoptions here.
